Gender Selection
Boy or Girl?

It is a personal choice for couples to decide if they want to select the gender of their child.  Some might say it is going "over the top", but others are comfortable with going all the way and select  their child’s gender.  This subject has been discussed in various articles and medical experts have their own opinion, but still is a personal choice for the couple to decide.

Microsort® is one of the most common patented procedures used.  It simple terms it is a process where seminal fluid is filtered and pressured through a long tube.  The tubes divides at the end and a fluorescence-based withed that is designed to direct larger X sperm in one direction and the smaller Y sperm in another direction.  The X or Y will be used during the fertilization of the egg during IVF or insemination resulting in either a boy or a girl.

There are many other methods such as the MicroSort®, Ericsson method etc that can be used.  More information can be obtained for sperm banks and fertility clinics.

Cost varies but will add another plus minus R3 000 (depending on the provider) to your bill in addition to your procedure.

Many Fertility Clinics do not offer the choice of Gender Selection.  Some feel that the only reason this option should be considered is due to medical reasons.

One of the clinics that do gender selection is Gynomed.  It is advisable to discuss the pro's and con's with your medical experts.
